• Calendula (Calendula officinalis), also known as Pot Marigold, is well known for its use in creams and ointments, but it also has a long history of internal use in Western herbal medicine. Herbalists have traditionally used Calendula for lymphatic congestion, swollen glands, irritated skin and during infection.

  Calendula is particularly valued when there are signs of lymphatic congestion, such as swollen or tender glands, puffiness, acne, recurrent boils or skin eruptions that keep returning. In traditional herbal practice, it has often been included in formulas used to encourage lymphatic drainage and what was historically described as “cleansing the blood”.

  Its connection with the skin is especially useful when redness, breakouts, boils or other recurring eruptions appear alongside swollen glands, puffiness or a feeling of congestion in the tissues. In these situations, Calendula has traditionally been taken internally rather than being used only as a cream or ointment on the skin.

  Calendula has also traditionally been used during infections and where the tissues of the mouth, throat or digestive tract are red, sore or inflamed. This gives it a useful place in formulas where swollen glands, skin eruptions or irritated tissues occur at the same time.

  Energetic qualities: In Western herbal tradition, Calendula is considered warming, gently drying and moving. These qualities reflect its traditional use where there is stagnation, puffiness, swollen glands or irritated tissue that is slow to settle.

  How NatroVital Calendula is Made

  We begin with organic Calendula flowers and use an alcohol extraction process to draw out the broad range of compounds naturally present within the flower. Calendula contains naturally occurring flavonoids, triterpenes, carotenoids and other plant compounds that contribute to its traditional herbal actions.

  Once extraction is complete, the alcohol is gently removed under vacuum at low temperatures. This allows us to produce an alcohol-free finished product while avoiding the high temperatures that may damage some of the more delicate compounds within the herb.

  The concentrated Calendula extract is then blended with vegetable glycerine and purified Grander water to create a clean, easy-to-take liquid extract.

  Unlike capsules or powders containing ground dried flowers and plant fibre, our liquid extract contains the compounds drawn from Calendula during extraction. This allows us to provide a concentrated herbal preparation without fillers, binders, coatings or artificial ingredients.

• ◄What is the recommended dosage for NatroVital Calendula?

  The daily adult dose is 5 mL, divided into two serves of 2.5 mL — one in the morning and one in the evening. One mL is approximately 20 drops. Add each dose to a small glass of water or juice, drink immediately, and swirl the glass to ensure any remaining liquid is also consumed. Dosages may vary depending on individual needs and practitioner guidance.

  Calendula can be combined with other NatroVital herbs and formulas depending on why it is being used:

  • For swollen glands, skin problems and broader lymphatic support: Blood Cleanse combines Calendula with Cleavers, Burdock, Chickweed, Nettle, Red Clover and other herbs traditionally used to support healthy lymphatic function and skin.
  • When swollen glands occur while the immune system is under pressure: Echinacea may be combined with Calendula when traditional immune and lymphatic support are both required.

  Calendula (Calendula officinalis) is generally considered well tolerated when used within normal herbal dosages. There are, however, a few situations where additional care is appropriate.

  Asteraceae family allergy: Calendula belongs to the Asteraceae family, which also includes plants such as chamomile, echinacea, daisies and ragweed. People with a known allergy to plants within this family may also react to Calendula.

  Pregnancy and breastfeeding: There is limited safety information available for the internal use of concentrated Calendula extracts during pregnancy and breastfeeding, so their use is generally avoided unless specifically advised by a qualified practitioner.

  Medication interactions: No significant medication interactions with Calendula have been established, but individual circumstances should still be considered when concentrated herbal extracts are used alongside prescription medication.
