Burdock Root (Arctium lappa) has a long history of traditional use and is generally well tolerated when used at appropriate dosages. However, several precautions should be considered.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding: There is insufficient safety information for concentrated Burdock extracts during pregnancy and breastfeeding, so use is generally not recommended during these periods.
Asteraceae family allergy: Burdock belongs to the Asteraceae family. People with a known sensitivity to plants from this family, including daisies, chrysanthemums, ragweed and related plants, may also be sensitive to Burdock.
Diuretic medication: Burdock has traditionally been used to support urinary elimination and may have a mild diuretic action. Additional care may therefore be appropriate when it is used alongside prescription diuretics.
Blood-sugar medication: Burdock may influence blood-glucose regulation in some individuals. Those taking glucose-lowering medication should monitor their blood sugar when introducing concentrated Burdock extracts.
