    • Looking for a Herbal Approach to H. pylori?

If you have tested positive for Helicobacter pylori, you are dealing with something quite different from occasional bloating, indigestion or an unsettled stomach.

      H. pylori is a bacterium that can establish itself within the stomach and remain there for years. It is associated with inflammation of the stomach lining and is an important cause of gastritis and peptic ulcer disease.

NatroVital HP Support was formulated specifically for situations where H. pylori is part of the picture.

It combines ten concentrated herbal extracts, bringing together herbs traditionally used when unwanted microorganisms are a concern, digestive herbs with bitter and aromatic properties, and herbs containing naturally occurring compounds that have been investigated in H. pylori research.

HP Support is not intended as an everyday tonic for occasional digestive discomfort. It is a concentrated, short-term herbal formula designed for a much more specific purpose.

Why Can H. pylori Be So Persistent?

Your stomach is designed to be highly acidic. That acidity helps with digestion and makes the stomach a difficult place for many microorganisms to survive.

      H. pylori has developed ways of getting around that.

It produces an enzyme called urease, which helps neutralise some of the acid immediately surrounding the bacterium. In simple terms, it can create a small area around itself that is less acidic than the rest of the stomach.

      H. pylori can also move into the stomach's protective mucus layer, placing it closer to the gastric lining while giving it further protection from stomach acid.

This helps explain one of the frustrating things about H. pylori: it is remarkably well adapted to living somewhere that should normally be hostile to bacteria.

Why HP Support Uses a Combination of Herbs

There is no single herb that gives us everything we want from this type of formula.

That is why HP Support contains Barberry, Clove, Cumin, Garlic, Green Tea, Myrrh, Neem, Olive Leaf, Thyme and Turmeric rather than being built around one supposedly powerful ingredient.

Some of these herbs have long histories of traditional use where unwanted microorganisms within the digestive tract are a concern. Others bring bitter, aromatic or broader digestive properties.

Several also contain naturally occurring plant compounds that have been independently investigated in research involving H. pylori, including research into bacterial growth, survival and microbial biofilms.

The reason for using ten herbs is not simply to make a bigger formula. It allows us to approach the formulation from several different herbal angles rather than expecting one ingredient to do all the work.

      What Are Biofilms?

Bacteria do not always live as isolated organisms.

Some can form organised communities known as biofilms. Within a biofilm, microorganisms become surrounded by a protective matrix that helps them attach to surfaces and can provide additional protection from their surroundings.

      H. pylori has been investigated for its ability to form biofilms, which may be one of several factors contributing to its ability to remain established within the stomach.

Several herbs used in HP Support contain naturally occurring compounds that have also been investigated in microbial biofilm research, including Garlic, Green Tea, Neem, Olive Leaf and Turmeric.

This is why the H. pylori discussion is not only about the bacterium itself. Researchers are also interested in the mechanisms that may help it survive and persist.

Where Does Saccharomyces boulardii Fit In?

Most people hear the word probiotic and think of bacteria such as Lactobacillus or Bifidobacterium.

Saccharomyces boulardii is different. It is a beneficial probiotic yeast, and it has been specifically studied in people with H. pylori.

Most human research has examined Saccharomyces boulardii alongside conventional H. pylori eradication therapy, including research into eradication outcomes and some of the gastrointestinal side effects that may occur during treatment.

NatroVital SacchroBiotic provides Saccharomyces boulardii, which is why it is the probiotic we most commonly pair with HP Support when H. pylori is part of the picture.

Feeling Better Doesn't Necessarily Mean H. pylori Has Gone

This is one of the most important things to understand.

Some people with H. pylori experience considerable upper digestive symptoms. Others can have very few symptoms at all.

The same applies afterwards. Your burning, indigestion, bloating or stomach discomfort may improve, but symptoms alone cannot tell you whether H. pylori is still present.

If you originally tested positive, follow-up testing gives you a much clearer answer than judging the outcome by how your stomach feels.

A urea breath test or stool antigen test is commonly used for follow-up testing. Timing matters, particularly if you have recently used antibiotics, proton-pump inhibitors or other treatments, so testing needs to be organised appropriately.

Please Note: Research discussed on this page relates to individual herbs, naturally occurring plant compounds and Saccharomyces boulardii. It should not be interpreted as evidence that NatroVital HP Support itself has been clinically demonstrated to treat or eradicate H. pylori.

If you have been diagnosed with H. pylori and would like help deciding whether HP Support is appropriate for your individual situation, please contact our clinic.

    • Why These Herbs Were Chosen

NatroVital HP Support combines ten concentrated herbal extracts, and each one has been chosen for a reason.

Rather than building the formula around one dominant herb, we wanted a broader combination that brings together several different herbal traditions and areas of research relevant to H. pylori.

There is some overlap between the groups below, and that is deliberate. A herb such as Garlic, Neem or Barberry is not included because it has only one property. Medicinal herbs contain many naturally occurring plant compounds and often have much broader traditional uses.

Herbs Traditionally Used When Unwanted Microorganisms Are a Consideration

      • Organic Barberry (Berberis vulgaris)
      • Organic Clove (Syzygium aromaticum)
      • Organic Garlic (Allium sativum)
      • Organic Myrrh (Commiphora myrrha)
      • Organic Neem (Azadirachta indica)
      • Organic Olive Leaf (Olea europaea)
      • Organic Thyme (Thymus vulgaris)

These herbs have long histories of traditional herbal use where unwanted microorganisms within the digestive tract are part of the concern.

Using several herbs together means the formula is not relying heavily on one ingredient. Each contributes different naturally occurring plant compounds and its own traditional role within the blend.

Bitter and Aromatic Herbs for Digestion

      • Organic Barberry (Berberis vulgaris)
      • Organic Clove (Syzygium aromaticum)
      • Organic Cumin (Cuminum cyminum)
      • Organic Myrrh (Commiphora myrrha)
      • Organic Neem (Azadirachta indica)
      • Organic Thyme (Thymus vulgaris)

      H. pylori lives in the stomach, so it makes little sense to formulate as though normal digestive function is irrelevant.

Several herbs in HP Support are bitter or aromatic herbs with long histories of use in traditional digestive medicine.

This gives HP Support a broader herbal foundation rather than making it simply a collection of herbs chosen because of antimicrobial research.

Herbs Investigated in H. pylori Research

      • Organic Cumin (Cuminum cyminum)
      • Organic Garlic (Allium sativum)
      • Organic Green Tea (Camellia sinensis)
      • Organic Neem (Azadirachta indica)
      • Organic Olive Leaf (Olea europaea)
      • Organic Turmeric (Curcuma longa)

Researchers have also investigated naturally occurring compounds within a number of the herbs used in HP Support in relation to H. pylori.

Much of this work has been laboratory or preclinical research looking at bacterial growth, survival and other biological mechanisms rather than clinical trials of complete herbal formulas.

This does not prove what HP Support will do in an individual person, but it does help explain why these particular herbs continue to attract interest when H. pylori is being discussed.

Herbs Investigated in Microbial Biofilm Research

      • Organic Garlic (Allium sativum)
      • Organic Green Tea (Camellia sinensis)
      • Organic Neem (Azadirachta indica)
      • Organic Olive Leaf (Olea europaea)
      • Organic Turmeric (Curcuma longa)

A biofilm is a community of microorganisms surrounded by a protective matrix that can help them attach to a surface and remain established.

      H. pylori has been investigated for its ability to form biofilms, while naturally occurring compounds within several HP Support herbs have separately been studied for their effects on microbial biofilm formation and stability.

This is relevant because H. pylori research is not only interested in the bacterium itself. Researchers are also trying to understand the mechanisms that help it survive and persist.

Why We Use Liquid Herbal Extracts

      • Herbal constituents are already extracted into liquid form
      • No ground herb or bulk plant fibre
      • No tablets or capsules that first need to break apart
      • No synthetic fillers or binders
      • No bulking agents
      • No artificial flavours or sweeteners
      • No unnecessary additives
      • 100% alcohol-free final formula

HP Support contains concentrated liquid herbal extracts rather than powdered herbs compressed into tablets or packed into capsules.

During extraction, soluble plant constituents are drawn from the raw herbs into the extraction liquid. This allows us to combine ten different herbal extracts into one concentrated formula without requiring the equivalent quantity of dried plant material to be swallowed directly.

      Our Commitment to Purity

      • Vegetable Glycerine: Used as part of the alcohol-free liquid base without the need for artificial sweeteners or flavours.
      • Purified Grander Water: Free from chlorine and fluoride and used as the water component of our finished herbal extracts.
      • 100% Alcohol-Free Final Formula: Alcohol is used during extraction and then removed under vacuum at low temperature before the concentrated herbal extract is blended with vegetable glycerine and purified water.
      • Vegan and Free From Common Added Allergens: No added gluten, dairy, eggs, soy, nuts, corn, artificial colours, flavours or preservatives.

How NatroVital HP Support Is Made

We begin with an alcohol and water extraction to draw a broad range of soluble plant compounds from the raw herbs.

Once extraction is complete, the alcohol is removed under vacuum at low temperature. The concentrated herbal extract is then blended with vegetable glycerine and purified Grander water to produce the finished alcohol-free tonic.

Every bottle is formulated and produced by us in Australia using small-batch manufacturing methods, giving us direct control over the herbs we use, how they are extracted and what goes into the finished formula.

      Active Herbal Ingredients Per Serve

Each 1mL of NatroVital HP Support is made from the equivalent of 500mg of dried herbal material.

This does not mean there is 500mg of powdered herb suspended in each millilitre. The soluble plant constituents have already been extracted from the herbs and incorporated into the liquid formula.

This gives you a concentrated combination of herbal extracts in a form that is easy to measure and use consistently.

      Research Behind These Herbal Ingredients

The references below provide some of the scientific background behind the individual ingredients discussed above.

Most of this research investigates individual herbs, extracts or naturally occurring plant compounds rather than NatroVital HP Support as a complete formula.

These references relate to research involving individual herbs, extracts or naturally occurring plant compounds. They are not clinical trials of NatroVital HP Support as a finished formula.

Read our Frequently Asked Questions for dosage information, common combinations, retesting and other practical information.

    • NatroVital HP Support Common Questions

What is the recommended dosage for NatroVital HP Support?

Adults: 7.5mL twice daily, morning and evening, for the first month.

After the first month, the dosage may be reduced to 5mL twice daily depending on the individual situation.

HP Support is intended as a concentrated, short-term herbal formula rather than an everyday digestive tonic that is simply taken indefinitely.

How should I take NatroVital HP Support?

Measure the recommended dose and dilute it in a small amount of water or juice.

Drink the full amount, then rinse the measuring cup with a little extra water and drink that as well so you receive the complete dose.

HP Support is designed to be taken consistently. It should not be treated like an indigestion remedy that you only take when your stomach happens to feel uncomfortable.

How long is HP Support usually taken for?

HP Support is generally used consistently for approximately 4 to 8 weeks.

The exact length depends on the individual situation, what else is being used and whether follow-up testing is planned.

It is not designed as a long-term daily tonic once the reason for using it has passed.

Why is SacchroBiotic often used alongside HP Support?

NatroVital SacchroBiotic provides Saccharomyces boulardii, a beneficial probiotic yeast.

Saccharomyces boulardii is quite different from simply adding a general bacterial probiotic.

It has been specifically studied in people with H. pylori, particularly when used alongside conventional eradication therapy.

This is why SacchroBiotic is the probiotic we most commonly pair with HP Support when H. pylori is part of the picture.

How much SacchroBiotic is usually taken with HP Support?

Our usual SacchroBiotic dosage when used alongside HP Support is 2 capsules twice daily for the first month.

If continued use is required after that, the dosage is commonly reduced to 1 capsule twice daily.

Why does HP Support contain so many different herbs?

Because one herb does not give us everything we want from this type of formula.

Some herbs have traditional uses where unwanted microorganisms are a concern, while others contribute bitter, aromatic and broader digestive properties.

Several also contain naturally occurring compounds that have been investigated in H. pylori or microbial biofilm research.

The formula is not large for the sake of it. Each herb has a reason for being there.

What are biofilms and why are they discussed with H. pylori?

Bacteria do not always exist as individual organisms floating freely in their environment.

Some can form organised communities known as biofilms. Within a biofilm, microorganisms become surrounded by a protective matrix that helps them attach to surfaces and remain established.

      H. pylori has been investigated for its ability to form biofilms, which may be one factor involved in its persistence within the stomach.

Compounds naturally present in several herbs included in HP Support have separately been investigated in microbial biofilm research.

If my stomach feels better, does that mean H. pylori is gone?

No. Symptoms cannot reliably tell you whether H. pylori is still present.

You can feel considerably better and still test positive. Likewise, some people have H. pylori with surprisingly few symptoms in the first place.

This is why follow-up testing is much more useful than symptoms alone when the question is whether H. pylori is still there.

Should I retest for H. pylori?

If you have previously tested positive for H. pylori, follow-up testing can determine whether the bacterium is still present.

A urea breath test or stool antigen test is commonly used for this purpose.

Timing is important because antibiotics, proton-pump inhibitors and some other treatments can interfere with test results. Your doctor or healthcare practitioner can advise when to test and which test is appropriate.

If H. pylori was there at the beginning, “I feel better” and “I no longer have H. pylori” are not necessarily the same thing.

Can NatroVital HP Support be taken alongside other gut health products?

Yes. HP Support can be combined with other digestive and gut health products where appropriate.

The product we most commonly pair with it is NatroVital SacchroBiotic, which provides Saccharomyces boulardii.

Other products may also be used where there are additional digestive concerns that need to be addressed rather than expecting HP Support to cover everything simply because H. pylori is present.

What makes liquid herbal extracts different from capsules, tablets or powders?

NatroVital HP Support contains concentrated liquid herbal extracts rather than ground herbs compressed into tablets or packed into capsules.

The soluble plant constituents have already been extracted during manufacture, allowing ten herbal extracts to be combined into one practical liquid formula.

HP Support contains no synthetic fillers, binders, bulking agents, artificial flavours or sweeteners, and the finished formula is alcohol-free.

Why choose NatroVital over other supplement brands?

NatroVital is a proudly Australian-owned and operated business, created by Greg Newson — a qualified naturopath, Western herbalist and nutritionist with more than 20 years of clinical experience.

NatroVital grew from a frustration we repeatedly encountered in practice. Many products contained ingredients we wanted, but they were often accompanied by fillers, binders, sweeteners, flavours and other additives we did not want.

Our herbal tonics are formulated and produced by us in Australia using concentrated liquid herbal extracts. This gives us direct control over the herbs we select, how they are extracted and what goes into the finished bottle.

At NatroVital, we believe that what is left out of a supplement is just as important as what goes into it.

Is HP Support suitable for vegans and vegetarians?

Yes. NatroVital HP Support contains no animal-derived ingredients and is suitable for vegans and vegetarians.

Are there any precautions or medication interactions to be aware of?

HP Support contains Barberry, Clove, Garlic, Myrrh, Neem, Olive Leaf, Thyme, Cumin, Green Tea and Turmeric. Particular care may be required in the following situations:

Anticoagulant and antiplatelet medicines: Garlic, Clove and Turmeric may influence platelet function or bleeding tendency. Check suitability if you are taking medicines such as warfarin, apixaban, rivaroxaban, clopidogrel or other blood-thinning medicines.

Diabetes medication: Barberry, Garlic, Neem, Olive Leaf and Cumin have been investigated for effects on blood glucose. Additional monitoring may be appropriate when using glucose-lowering medication.

Blood pressure medication: Garlic and Olive Leaf may influence blood pressure. Additional monitoring may be appropriate when using antihypertensive medication, particularly if your blood pressure already tends to run low.

Medicines with a narrow therapeutic range: Barberry contains naturally occurring berberine alkaloids that may influence the metabolism or transport of some medicines. Check suitability if you take medicines where relatively small changes in blood concentration may be important.

Before surgery: Garlic, Clove and Turmeric may influence platelet activity. Discuss use of HP Support with your surgeon or treating practitioner before planned surgery.

Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: HP Support is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Several ingredients in this concentrated formula, including Barberry, Myrrh and Neem, are not considered appropriate for routine internal use during pregnancy.

Allergies or Sensitivities: Do not use if you are allergic or sensitive to any ingredient in the formula.

If you take prescription medication and are unsure whether HP Support is compatible with it, please contact us before purchasing.
